Suddenly, the door opened and a low-statured, slim-figured, redhead in a navy blue form fitting suit walked in. "Mulder, I think this is enough for now. Let's call it a day," suggested Special Agent Dana Scully, his long time partner and best friend. "Wait, not yet," said Mulder. "Just a couple of more reports." Scully was flabbergasted at the response. It wasn't often Mulder insisted on finishing his reports. He hated reports. He often complained about the millions of trees being cut down just so that the FBI could have paper for reports for cases that didn't even need to be reported on. "Okay," she replied. "Why don't we get some dinner and we'll finish this a my place?" He extracted himself from whatever he was writing and looked up at his partner with a sly grin. "Sounds like a fine idea, Miss Scully," he replied playfully. Scully smiled and helped Mulder gather the manila folders that piled up on his desk. She stacked and lifted them up to her chest to carry as she strode toward the door. she thought to herself. Meanwhile, Mulder stood up, grabbed his coat and hers as well, picked up the remaining files on his desk, and turned the lights off as he followed her out into the hallway. "So what'll it be tonight?" Scully asked as they walked towards their cars. He shrugged. "I don't know." "I don't know is hard to find," said Scully as she turned and smiled at Mulder. "Why don't you go on ahead and I'll stop and pick up a pizza on my way over?" "Sounds like a plan." --8:45 p.m.-- Mulder didn't even bother to knock as he used his key to unlock Scully's door. When he walked in pizza in hand, he immediately noticed how "cute" his partner looked in sweats. "Is it just me or is it warm in here?" he said uneasily, loosening his tie. Scully eyed him suspicously and replied, "It's just you Mulder," taking the box from him. "Take your jacket off and get comfortable." Scully set the pizza on the kitchen table while Mulder made himself more at home. As the two sat to eat, Scully noticed Mulder staring at her. "What, is there something on my face?" asked Scully. "No. I'm sorry." "Is there something wrong?" "No everything's fine. I just fell into one of those trances." "Well it's a good thing you snapped out of it, we need to get started on these files," said Scully as she migrated over to the coffee table. Mulder followed and plopped himself across the table from Scully. The two then busied themselves as they became buried with files. --11:21 p.m.-- "Mulder, I'm feeling pretty drained. Do you mind finishing the rest?" Scully asked. "Sure, no problem." --11:30 p.m.-- As Scully stepped into the shower, she thought, --12:00 a.m.-- As it turned out, Mulder didn't have much more to do. He looked through the folders and made sure everything was done. When he finished, he stacked the files neatly and then got up to stretch his cramped legs. "Maybe you should just make it a night on the couch," spoke Scully from behind, dressed in only a bathrobe. Mulder turned and said, "you know, I might just..." "take you up on that offer. I'm feeling pretty burnt out myself." He felt a pang of excitement overcome him. "Mind if I used you bathroom?" "No, not at all. I'll get your blankets while you're in there," said Scully. She made up the sofa for Mulder and then retreated to her room. She collapsed on the bed and turned on "The Late Show." --12:15 a.m.-- "Sweet dreams, Scully," Mulder said as he came out of the bathroom. Scully looked up to reply, "you too, Mulder," and noticed he was only in his boxers. Her heart fluttered as Mulder breezed by leaving a soapy, yet sexy scent. Mulder settled on the couch with the remote and flipped on the TV. Nothing good was on, and Scully didn't have his favorite channel, and he settled on a "M*A*S*H" re-run. He felt himself drifting off, but decided to leave the TV on. --1:21 a.m.-- Mulder woke up from a light sleep and wondered what he was doing on the couch. The television was still blaring an infomercial for "Supermop." He got up, clicked the TV off, and walked blindly towards the bedroom, a route he was all too familiar with. He went inside and climbed into the bed, not knowing where he really was. --9:27 a.m.-- Scully awoke the next morning, thinking about what a nice dream she had. She dreamt that she and Mulder had gone to sleep with their arms around each other. She refused to open her eyes to the morning sun, to savor the moment, for fear that she would never feel like this again. "Oh, Mulder," she sighed. Mulder felt his psyche snap into conciousness. He didn't want to wake up. He had another dream where he and Scully had spent the night in each other's arms. He kept his eyes shut. He wanted the feeling to last. "I love you, Dana Scully," he murmured. Scully heard her name and opened her eyes, fully ready to face the disappointment of being alone. To her surprise, she found herself in Mulder's arms. She lifted her hand to move a lock of Mulder's hair that had falled over his eyes. She felt surprised, yet pleased. She didn't know how Mulder had gotten there, but she didn't really care. She felt secure in his embrace. A kind of security that she only felt when around her father. Mulder felt a lock of his hair shift. He opened his eyes, only to realize that his arms were locked around Scully. Scully was toying with his hair, twirling it around her fingers. He smiled, just as Scully looked into his eyes. "Well this is pleasant," said Mulder half-jokingly. Scully smiled then closed her eyes. "Did you hear what I said?" he whispered. "You mean what you mumbled?" "Mm-hmm." "Every word." "I meant it." Scully opened her eyes again. Mulder kissed her gently. He pulled back and looked at her as if he's taking in the scene. He kissed her again, even more passionately. She replied with intensity. Scully pulled away and with a grin she said, "It's a good thing today's Saturday." "Why?" "Because I'm not planning on getting out of bed anytime soon." Mulder took this as a sign of approval and pulled the sheets over them. And with Scully's cooperation, he then initiated the long awaited consumation of their too-long-to-have-been-platonic relationship. Then from under the sheets Scully asked, "Now can I call you Fox?" --Fin-- (Any questions, suggestions, thoughts, or comments, please e-mail me at KGrimmy99@aol.com)
