Use your imaginations ;) X x X x X x X x X x X "G'night, Mulder. Sleep well." "Thanks, Scully. You too," he replied. "See you in the morning." "Yeah," she whispered. It was going to be a long night for both of them. X x X x X x X x X x X January 18, 1998 Dana Scully's Apartment Sunday 3:12 a.m. Dana Scully rolled over onto her stomach for what seemed to be the hundredth time that night. It had been over an hour since she had gone to bed, but sleep had yet to come. she wondered to herself. She pounded her fist into the pillow. She tried to re- position herself unto her left side, but the bed sheets were tangled around her legs. Scully sat up quickly and kicked away the sheets. She leaned against the head- board and ran her hand through her hair. "Who are you tryin' to kid, Dana," she whispered to herself. She knew perfectly well why she couldn't fall asleep. It was because of a certain guy sleeping on her couch in the next room. Scully started to bite on her lower lip contemplating whether she should get up and take a look at him. X x X x X x X x X x X 3:11 am Fox Mulder continued to stare at the VCR clock across the room as he had for the past hour or so. He wasn't worried about the lack of sleep he wasn't getting. No, he was used to that. What was bothering him was the reason. Dana Scully to be exact. Not that it was the first time that she had kept him awake. Memories of Duanne Barry, Donnie Pfaster, Robert Modell, threats of cancer, and many other thoughts had kept him up before. But this was different. She wasn't in danger or in pain. But she was so far away. "You complete me," he whispered to himself. Such a short statement, but so much meaning lay beneath it. And it fit so perfectly for them. He wanted to tell her, but he was afraid. Mulder sat up and scratched his jaw. But that wasn't the only reason he didn't tell her. No, she was afraid too. He saw it in her eyes. Mulder leaned his head against the soft cushions and closed his eyes, hoping that for once in his life, sleep would just take over. No nightmares, no visions, no...such luck. "Fuck!" he said a little louder than he meant to. He sat up and cringed. Hoping against hope that Scully hadn't heard him. He glanced at the clock: 3:15 am. X x X x X x X x X x X 3:15 am Scully's eyes were still locked on her closed bedroom door. she told herself. She started to wonder what he could be dreaming of. She wanted to see his face. That beautiful lower lip while he slept. She would do that from time to time when they were on a stakeout. Just watch him sleep. He would look so peaceful. So calm. She needed to see that right now. "So why don't you?" she told her- self quietly. "Yeah," she whispered. She got up from the bed and moved silently to the door. X x X x X x X x X x X Mulder glanced quickly to the closed door. He listened hard trying to make out any movement from the bedroom. "Just go check," he mumbled quietly. He rose from the couch and moved as quietly as possible towards the bedroom. He had made it right outside of her door when he heard a loud 'creak' from the floorboard. He bolted quickly back to the couch and pretended to be asleep. She would be coming out any second now, gun aimed at a prowler that didn't exist. X x X x X x X x X x X Scully had made it to the door and was about to turn the knob when she heard it. A loud creak coming from the floorboard. Mulder would have definitely heard that one. She ran back to the bed and hid under the covers. A few seconds passed by and Scully reappeared from beneath the covers. This was insane, she was in *her* apartment. Why was she so freaked out? "That's it I'm going out there." She got out from under the covers and moved towards the door. She paused for a second before actually opening it, wondering what in the world she was about to get into. X x X x X x X x X x X Mulder thought to himself. He got up from the couch and walked over to the closed bedroom door. As he was about to knock the door flew open. "Mulder?" "Scully..." "We need to talk," they said in unison. They stood there in silence for a moment, each knowing what was about to transpire. Scully took the moment to give Mulder a once over. His mussed up hair, the wrinkled T-shirt, and cotton boxers. She blushed when she noticed Mulder was aware of what she was doing. He smiled gently and he took Scully's hand and led her to the couch. She sat down and curled her legs underneath her. Mulder started to pace. He ran his fingers through his hair thinking carefully how he wanted to word what he was finally going to say to her. "Scully..." he began "Mulder..." she interrupted him. He raised his hand in her direction in order to quiet her. Scully simply raised an eyebrow at him. Shocked in the way he just silenced her. It was something reminiscent of what she had seen on the 'Jerry Springer Show' a while back. Not that she watched the show, she was simply surfing by.... "Scully, let me get this out." He stopped pacing and looked at her. "We've been working together for what? Almost six years now, right? "Yeah," she simply said. He ignored her statement. "And we have this certain connection." He motioned with his hands. "It's almost psychic in a way. Don't you think?" This statement caused both her eyebrows to cast upwards. But it never flinched Mulder. "It's weird, don't you think. The way we can hold conversations for minutes without saying a single word. I mean...I can look you in the eyes and know exactly what you're thinking. We can complete each other's thoughts without thinking twice about it and vice versa. Mulder rambled on and Scully simply stared at him. He stopped pacing for a second and a slow simple smile crossed his face. "Mulder..." she tried to interject. He simply put out his hand again. "I remember," he continued unfazed. "Talking to Danny a while back. He said we were in his office for a good ten minutes just staring at each other. He had no clue what was going on. He thought it was some kind of stand off. Until he got closer. Then he noticed the quick movements of our eyes and faces. And he realized we were having a conversation. He said it was one of the weirdest moments in his life." "Unspoken communication," Scully mumbled. He sat down next to her. "Mulder..." But he would not stop rambling. He started to tell her something Skinner had said to him, but she had had enough. So she kissed him. He resisted for a split second, unsure of what had just transpired. But, as soon as his unsureness arrived, it was gone. Eventually Mulder deepened the kiss, lingering in the taste of her. He never wanted this moment to end. She broke the kiss a few moments later and smiled at him. "I love you too, Mulder," she simply said. He stared at her for a second before he too smiled. "That was my next point," he whispered. "Right, Mulder. When you start rambling like that there's no stopping you. But I think I *finally* found out how." His smile grew wider and he kissed her again. This time he broke it. Mulder traced her cheek and she closed her eyes, not wanting to wake from this wonderful dream. "How long have you known?" he asked quietly. She opened her eyes and smiled slyly at him. "Known what?" she asked innocently. He smiled at her. "How bout you?" she asked. "Honestly?" he asked. "I felt that connection form during out first case together...But I didn't realize how much you meant to me...How much I loved you until you were taken from me. I'm a different man because of you, Scully." That statement caused her eyebrow to ascend again. He smiled at her gesture. "I don't know, Mulder. Is that a good thing?" she asked teasingly. "I like where I'm going a whole lot more then where I've been. I want to go there with you." She stared at him for a few seconds before continuing. "You brought me back," she admitted. "That's right around the time I knew, too." She took his hands in her own. "I mean it, Mulder. You're the reason I came back. That's when I realized how much I relied on you and your strength." She gave him a half smile. "So in a weird, twisted way, my abduction was a good thing." He shook his head aggressively. "No, don't ever say that. This," he motioned between them. "*We* were inevitable. We were meant to be." She smiled broadly at him. "Luck, Mulder?" He shook his head again. "No...Fate." Mulder kissed her again reveling in the fact that this moment had finally come. He started to undo the buttons of her top, but she stilled his movements with her hand. She got up from the couch and pulled Mulder up with her. This time she took his hand and led him to the bedroom door. He paused for a second. "Scully, are you sure?" She smiled at him. "Yeah, I'm sure," she whispered. X x X x X x X x X x X Mulder nuzzled his nose in Scully's hair. "Hey, Scully," he whispered. She stirred in his arms. "Hmmm?" What are you doing tomorrow? That got her attention. She turned her face to look at him. "I don't know. Why? He smiled at her. "How bout catching that movie?" She smiled back at him. "Only if we can hit the hotel afterwards."
