"Getting a little stir crazy, Mulder?" "You could say that. Aren't you? We've been here three days already with absolutely no sign of infection. Why do we have to stay here the full thirty days?" "Because it's standard procedure. Because it's for our own good. Because they want to keep you off the streets." "Very funny." "I thought so." "Come on, Scully, aren't you tired of all this? Aren't you tired of wearing these scrubs and being poked and prodded every hour on the hour?" "It's not so bad, Mulder." "Then why am I about ready to pick up my gun and shoot somebody, and you're not?" "Because you always have to be moving and doing something, and I don't." "That's not true." "Yes, it is. Mulder, you can't sit still for more than five minutes at a time." "I did on the plane coming out here. I only got out of my seat once the entire flight." "That may be true, but while you were in your seat, you sure did a lot of fidgeting." "How would you know? You had your face in a book almost the entire time, Scully." "And that surprises you? You know I like to read when we're flying." "I know, but I was kind of hoping that we could've talked about a few things instead." "Well, we've got twenty-seven days left here. You can talk to me all you want now. What's on your mind?" "You shouldn't have even come with me on this case, Scully." "Mulder, we talked about this before. I was ready to work. I wanted to work. I *needed* to work." "I know what you told me, but I also know what you're trying to do...and I don't want you to feel like you have to prove anything to me." "I'm not trying to prove anything to you. It's important to me to be able to work, and you better than anyone else should understand that." "I do understand, but I also understand that I almost lost you again out there at that site. When I was stuck in that cave with Trepkos, do you know how afraid I was that you had already become infected and that I'd get back too late to help you?" "But you weren't too late. I took care of things myself so that I wasn't exposed to the parasite. And from what they've told us so far, I'm okay... and so are you." "I can't lose you again, Scully." "You won't...but Mulder, you can't stop me from doing my job. I won't let you." "I don't want to stop you. I just want you to be more careful." "I know you have my best interest at heart, and I appreciate that, but I can take care of myself." "I know you can. I've always known it. It's just that I..." "What? It's just that you what?" "It's nothing..." "No...what is it?" "It's nothing that we need to get into now." "Okay, but don't think I won't remember that we need to finish this discussion because you know I will." "I know." "It's almost 1:00. Someone will be coming in here again soon to check our vitals." "Unfortunately." "You're not planning on causing any trouble, are you, Mulder?" "Me? No, of course not." "Mulder..." "Well, at least not today anyway." ~end~ ~All my poems and stories can be found at: http://members.tripod.com/sfrankovich/index.html To post, mail to xfc-ATXC@yahoogroups.com To subscribe, mail xfc-ATXC-subscribe@yahoogroups.com To unsubscribe, mail xfc-ATXC-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com Your use of Yahoo!
